A Clinical Study on the Effects of Cefpiramide sodium as a Perioperative Antibiotics in General Thoracic Surgery

Abstract
For elective procedures of general thoracic surgery, cephalosporins has been effective as a perioperative antibiotics.
Cefpiramide sodium, a new semisynthetic cephalosporin, has a broad spectrum and high levels of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria including Pseudomonas aeruginosa
We made a comparative study between the prophylactic effects of cefpiramide sodium (Group I) and those of cefoperazone sodium (Group II) in 30 cases of elective general thoracic surgery respectively.
In group I , there were no wound infections, no significant side-effects observed, except mild to moderate elevation of SGOT and SGPT in 2 cases. But the abnormal LFT normalized soon after the prophylactic usage.
The results of group I were comparable to those of group II.
We showed that cefpiramide sodium was a single effective prophylactic antibiotics in the field elective general thoracic surgery.
